Musa Basjoo is a very cold hardy banana, root hardy to -10C. In its first year reaching a height of 2 metres with plenty of water and fertilizer. A sheltered spot in full sun is ideal although it will tolerate part shade.
Musa Sikkimensis Hookeri A young plant showing the maroon to red colouring typical of this variety. A very cold tolerant plant with a high resistance to leaf tearing. This banana can grow quite rapidly given correct care and attention to position, full sun brings out the best colouring of the very glossy leaves.
Musella Lasiocarpa Originating at high altitudes in the Province of Yunnan China. Adapts very well to the UK climate will grow well even in part shade. Occasionally defoliates at very low temperatures but re-grows amazingly well. Leaves are a nice apple green colour with a pink blush at the base of the psuedotrunk. Height 1.5 metres and suitable as a tub plant.
Ensete Ventricosum A large plant which looks spectacular when grouped in three's . Huge paddle shaped leaves form a perfect place to sit under on hot summer days. The pseudotrunk is tinged red at the base, also the midribs of the leaves. Height to more than 20 feet after three years if frost protected. Does not sucker or need much maintenance apart from lashings of water and fertilizer.
